Olga Scheps | Piano

Download:  Biography (pdf-Datei)

"We are in the Chopin year, and on the occasion of the 200th birthday of the Polish composer, there will be an actual flood of new recordings. The debut CD of the 24-year-old Russian pianist Olga Scheps is among the best: these etudes, waltzes and mazurkas shine in every possible shading. Brilliant."
~ translated after Stern (Kulturmagazin Musik) January 14, 2010

Olga Scheps was born in Moscow in 1986 and came to Germany at the age of six. Today, she lives in Cologne and studies at the local conservatoire with Pavel Gililov. Further studies led her to Arie Vardi and Dmitrij Bashkirov. Moreover, for nearly ten years now, she has been obtaining important artistic impulses by Alfred Brendel.

For already a few years, Olga Scheps has been among the most sought-after soloists of the younger generation. Her concerts led her to numerous renowned music centres such as the Philharmonie am Gasteig Munich, Laeiszhalle Hamburg, Philharmonie Berlin, Liederhalle Stuttgart, and the Mozarteum Salzburg. Orchestras like the Radio Symphony Orchestras of the NDR, Musikkollegium Winterthur, the State Orchestra of Lower-Saxony Hanover, and the Symphony Orchestra Munich are her partners.

Since her debut at the Piano Festival Ruhr in 2007, Olga Scheps is regularly a welcome guest at diverse well-known festivals such as the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Kissinger Sommer, Heidelberger Frühling, and the Sommerliche Musiktage Hitzacker.

Olga Scheps is also a passionate chamber musician. She regularly works with colleagues like the violinists Daniel Hope and Erik Schumann, the cellists Adrian Brendel, Alban Gerhardt, and Jan Vogler as well as with the violist Nils Mönkemeyer.

Her recital at Piano Festival Ruhr in May 2009 was recorded and has been published in the “Edition Piano Festival Ruhr” in cooperation with the magazine Fono Forum.

In January 2010, she released her debut CD "Chopin" as an exclusive artist of the SONY Classical/RCA label. For this recording Olga Scheps will be awarded an ECHO Classic "Newcomer of the Year" in October 2010. In autumn 2010, her second CD, dedicated to works by Russian composers, is to be released.

TV reports in the German newscast "heute journal" (ZDF), at "Capriccio" (BR), Arte, 3Sat, and NDR have quickly fostered her publicity among a broader audience. As ambassador for classical music, especially the address of a younger audience is dear to her heart.

Among the upcoming engagements are Olga Scheps’ debuts at the Concert house Vienna and at the great hall of Tonhalle Zurich. Furthermore, she is the soloist of the Hamburg Symphonics (Chopin Piano concerto no. 2) and of the State Orchestra of Lower-Saxony (Brahms Piano concerto no. 1). Re-invitations lead her to Munich, for a recital and also for a concert alongside the Munich Symphonics at the Philharmonie am Gasteig.
