Maurice Steger numbers among the world's leading recorder virtuosos and is one of the most successful soloists of his generation.

Born in Winterthur, Switzerland, he studied with Pedro Memelsdorff and Kees Boeke. While still a student, he launched an active concert career that has regularly taken him to the most important European musical centers and to South America. He has received many awards, including the Karajan Prize from the Eliette von Karajan Cultural Foundation in 2002.

He is a frequent guest soloist with leading period ensembles and also appears with modern symphony and chamber orchestras, increasingly in the role of conductor.

Maurice Steger is committed to innovative programming concepts and rarely performed repertoire – from early music to world premieres of contemporary works. His children's project Tino Flautino, a musical fairy tale for children from the age of four, enjoyed great success and was recorded on CD. His numerous recordings have received many of the internationally renowned awards.

Maurice Steger lives in Zürich and occasionally gives master classes in Europe and overseas.

Future Engagements
In the 2009/10 season, Maurice Steger continues his intensive cooperation with the Zurich Chamber Orchestra, e. g. with his own programme concept for four concerts within the orchestra’s baroque cycle. His trio with Hille Perl and Lee Santana will debut in Hannover, Munich and at the Musikverein Vienna. Furthermore, his debut as conductor and soloist at the Taipeh Symphony Orchestra as well as a re-invitation to "Les Violons du Roy" are planned.
